The "Great Silk Way" International Youth Union has finished its third Council of Members (COMEM) in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Chairman of the Union Fuad Muradov, the Minister of Macedonia and Thrace Georgios Ofranos, Mayor of Thessaloniki Yannis Boutaris, the President of the "Thessaloniki European Youth Capital - 2014" Babis Papaioannou participated at the opening ceremony that took place in the office building of the town council of Thessaloniki.
Minister of Macedonia and Thrace Georgios Ofranos expressed his gladness for hosting youth from GSW Countries: I believe that cooperation between GSW IYU and Thessaloniki will succesfully continue in future, he emphasized.
On the day of teh first working day of teh COMEM the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov stated that Azerbaijani government will continue supporting interesting ideas and activities of the GSW IYU. This new platform took its place inthe world youth movement in a very short time and implemented many projects by increasing its ranks, he added. Later, the Minister invited members of teh Union to take part in the Global Forum on Youth Policies that will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in October by the initiative of the UN accepted youth policy paper and action plan 2015 was confirmed
The Chairman of the Union Fuad Muradov noted that the historical Silk Way was not only about trade, but it also united different cultures. "In the time of globalisation terms like religious discrimination, cultural diversity have penetrated in society. We want to bring together people from different religious, cultural background". He added that the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan has been supporting the Union since the beginning of its existence.
During the COMEM, the Youh Policy paper has been accepted, Action Plan - 2015 was confirmed. It has been decided to held the next COMEM in October, in Egypt.
